Go Johnnies!

St. John’s University is a private Catholic university, located in Queens, New York. I’ve been commuting to SJU for three years, and the sense of pride and involvement among students is truly remarkable.

The school fosters a strong sense of community and school spirit that emphasizes academic excellence and proudly contributing to a long-standing reputation. The professors and staff are dedicated to student success, and my fellow students were always equally committed to high academic standards and personal growth. Being part of such a vibrant and inclusive environment has been a rewarding experience.

FUN FACT:

The University Crest (left) is not only a symbol of appreciation for Christian education principles, but the shell at the top also refers to a Native American name for Long Island, “Sewanhacky” or “Island of Shells”

Tobin’s Applied Analytics & AI Society

Tobin’s Applied Analytics & AI Society is a student-led organization put together by Dr. Michael D. Herley, DBA at St. John’s University, focused on exploring the intersection of data analytics, artificial intelligence, and real-world business applications. The society provides a collaborative environment for students to engage in hands-on projects, discuss emerging trends in AI and machine learning, and develop technical skills in data science.

Through workshops, guest speaker events, and networking opportunities, members gain practical experience with analytical tools and methodologies used in various industries, including finance, healthcare, and technology. Whether you're an aspiring data scientist, business analyst, or AI enthusiast, the society fosters an inclusive space to deepen your knowledge and apply analytical concepts to real-world challenges.

Certificate Program Overview

After completing my master's degree, I recognized that while I had a solid foundation in data science, there were emerging areas, particularly in machine learning and neural networks that I hadn't fully explored. To bridge this gap, I enrolled in the MIT Data Science and Machine Learning: Making Data-Driven Decisions program.

This 12-week online course delves into advanced topics such as deep learning, neural networks, and the latest advancements like ChatGPT and Generative AI. The curriculum is designed to provide hands-on experience, allowing me to apply these techniques to real-world scenarios. Upon completion, I'll earn a professional certificate from MIT's Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), further solidifying my expertise in this rapidly evolving field.

More information regarding the course structure and timeline of the program can be found in the brochure linked below.
